January 17th in Seal Beach History

On this date in 1975, if you and a friend felt a tad peckish while driving down Pacific Coast Highway through Seal Beach, you could pull into the Glide ‘er Inn and be proudly served bouillabaisse Marseillaise for two, according to this ad from the Long Beach Independent.Jan_17_1975_Glide_er_Inn_Ad– Michael Dobkins

After 52 years (1964) I visited the Seal Beach area and was curious to find out if the glide’er inn was still open. Why, because at the time I was a teen-ager and a dishwasher at this restaurant which was owned and operated by two brothers (Paul and Al). One of the chefs was named Julian Garza. We were both from Rio Grande City, Texas. It was a great place to dine, judging by the continuous flow of clientele day after day. I was disappointed to learn that the restaurant had changed from its original theme depicted by the stucked plane on the roof..Great memories, though.
